Narrated Talha bin 'Ubaidullah:
A man from Najd with unkempt hair came to Allah's Apostle and we heard his loud voice but could not understand what he was saying, till he came near and then we came to know that he was asking about Islam. Allah's Apostle said, "You have to offer prayers perfectly five times in a day and night (24 hours)." The man asked, "Is there any more (praying)?" Allah's Apostle replied, "No, but if you want to offer the Nawafil prayers (you can)." Allah's Apostle further said to him: "You have to observe fasts during the month of Ramad, an." The man asked, "Is there any more fasting?" Allah's Apostle replied, "No, but if you want to observe the Nawafil fasts (you can.)" Then Allah's Apostle further said to him, "You have to pay the Zakat (obligatory charity)." The man asked, "Is there any thing other than the Zakat for me to pay?" Allah's Apostle replied, "No, unless you want to give alms of your own." And then that man retreated saying, "By Allah! I will neither do less nor more than this." Allah's Apostle said, "If what he said is true, then he will be successful (i.e. he will be granted Paradise)."

Welcome to The Al Hedaya Islamic Center

In the name of Allah SWT, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful. All praise is for Allah SWT alone whose help and forgiveness we seek. We ask His protection against evil and wrong doing. Whomever Allah SWT guides cannot be misguided and whomever Allah SWT allows to go astray cannot be guided to the straight path. We bear witness that there is no god worthy of worship but Allah SWT, and we bear witness that Muhammad PBUH is His Messenger.

The Hedaya Center (as The Muslim Society of Greater Danbury Inc.) was founded in June 2009 by a few committed sisters in our community as a private summer gathering in Newtown CT to tutor their children about their beliefs. This community grew steadily into a ‘school’. Over a period of  the following two years, with more children enrolling and the addition of Programs for New Muslims, Youth, Women etc., the ‘school’ evolved into the ‘Al Hedaya Islamic Center’ with a multi-cultural Muslim Community vision that reflects the core Muslim values of moderation, education and outreach.  Our community includes about 100 Muslim households from Arab, African, European, US, Central and South American, Chinese, Thai, Filipino, Indonesian and South Asian origins. Our ethnic and national diversity reflects our community’s rich cultural heritage and Islam’s enduring message of moderation, peace and justice

Newtown's response to the Dec 16th 2014 Peshawar School Shootings:

The community at Hedaya with our extended family across the leadership of Newtown CT (Elected officials, Faith Groups, Sandy Hook Promise, Newtown Action Alliance, Newtown Foundation, Connecticut Against Gun Violence and many others including the parents of victims of the Dec 2012 Sandy Hook Massacre) share in the grief of the families of Peshawar's victims in this open letter:

'You are not alone in your loss' is the message Newtown CT prepared on a banner to be carried to Peshawar by a family from our community. This banner was just delivered to the people of Peshawar through its elected officials.

The Community gathering at Hedaya on Sunday, Dec 21st 2014,
